Because no horror marathon is complete without Stephen King, today’s movie is Gerald’s Game. AKA Viagra: A Cautionary Tale. AKA Never Let a Bitch Use Real Handcuffs on You. AKA Maybe Don’t Agree to Sexytime Games That You’re Not Into.
I know what you’re thinking. This is not typical King fare. And you’re right, it’s not. But everyone’s writing about It or The Shining or Carrie or any of the other big King movies, and I’m not everyone.
I didn’t expect this to be as good as it is. Adaptations of Stephen King books are hit or miss. I haven’t read the book, so I can’t say how faithful an adaptation it is, but the movie is great. Most of it is just watching a woman handcuffed to bed losing her fucking mind, hallucinating conversations with herself at various stages of her life, her dead husband, and her father. Turns out she is a bad bitch. As her younger self told her, she had the tools she needed all along.
Good movie. Watch it. Or don’t, I don’t care.
