This is the movie I wanted to watch yesterday. It’s on Starz, I don’t have Starz, and the free trial button wasn’t working. Today the button worked, so I guess I’ll be browsing Starz for the next 6 days.
Anyway. Alien. I started the movie and my kid comes in outraged that the movie studio jingle is different than the one she knows. I reminded her that this movie was made in 1979. She took that as an opportunity to remind me that I’m old, of course. She wandered off before the movie actually started because she doesn’t like scary movies.
When we think about space, stuff like Star Trek or Star Wars come to mind. But I think the prospect of space travel in its early stages, before we learn to communicate with aliens, is far more terrifying than that. We don’t know what’s out there. We don’t know if it’s friendly. Hell, we’re not friendly.
This is a great movie. I especially love that it ends with Ripley settling in for a stasis nap with her cat, because how else would you celebrate surviving that shitshow. Naps with cats are something special.
